Cox Voice landline customers have three official ways to block a phone number on cox landline: using star codes from your handset, managing settings in the MyAccount portal, or using the Voice Tools website. Each method stops unwanted calls without requiring extra equipment.
Block a phone number on Cox landline with star codes
The quickest way to block a phone number on your Cox landline is by dialing feature codes directly from your phone. This method works immediately and requires no computer or app.
Block a specific number with *60 (Selective Call Rejection)
- Lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone.
- Dial *60.
- Follow the voice prompts to add phone numbers to your rejection list.
- To turn the feature on or off, dial *60, listen for the announcement, then press 3.
Once enabled, calls from numbers on your rejection list are automatically blocked.
Block the last caller with *97
If you just received an unwanted call and want to block that number immediately, dial *97 from your handset. This blocks the last person that called you.
Block anonymous calls with *77 and *87
To block all calls from callers who hide their caller ID, dial *77 to turn on Anonymous Call Rejection. To turn it off, dial *87.
Method 2: Use MyAccount and Digital Telephone Manager
If you prefer managing blocking calls and numbers from a computer or mobile browser, the MyAccount portal gives you full control over your Cox Voice features. Cox also documents *63 for a caller-ID related blocking feature, but does not name a phone-number-blocking menu path for it here.
- Log in to your Cox account at the MyAccount portal.
- Navigate to Voice Features & Settings.
- Locate Selective Call Rejection or Anonymous Call Rejection.
- Add the phone numbers you want to block.
- Save your changes.
Cox confirms that Selective Call Rejection automatically rejects calls from selected callers without hearing a single ring.
Method 3: Use the Voice Tools website
The Cox Voice Tools website provides another way to manage blocked numbers and activate spam protection.
- Visit voicetools.cox.com.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Spam Blocker: Customize.
- Add or remove numbers from your blocked list.
Blocked numbers will appear in your Call History, and your phone won't ring for those callers. Cox also offers Nomorobo through the Voice Tools website, go to Settings, then Nomorobo/Simultaneous Ring, and activate it. Cox provides Simultaneous Ring for free so customers can use this third-party spam-blocking service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can callers hear a ring when blocked?
No. With Selective Call Rejection, blocked calls are rejected without a single ring. The caller hears a fast busy signal or a message that the call cannot be completed.
Can I block both landline and mobile numbers?
Yes. Cox Selective Call Rejection works on any phone number, landline or mobile, that you add to your block list.
Is there a cost for spam blocking?
No. Cox Spam Blocker is enabled for all existing and new Voice subscribers at no cost. Nomorobo is also free to activate through the Voice Tools website.
How many numbers can I block?
Cox does not officially document a maximum number for Selective Call Rejection on its support pages. A Cox forum post mentions up to 25 numbers, but this is not confirmed on the official support page.
Does Cox Voice have an app for blocking calls?
The Cox Voice Tools app is available, but the retrieved Cox pages do not clearly document a separate native app workflow for blocking landline numbers. The most reliable methods are the star codes, MyAccount portal, and Voice Tools website. Cox's mobile-phone page about STIR/SHAKEN is for Cox Mobile, not Cox landline, so its iPhone and Android steps do not apply to Cox Voice landline blocking.
