What Is Sweatcoin?

It was founded by a UK-based team in 2014. Sweatcoin has over 10 million subscribers and has tracked around eight billion steps. The app is available in over 50 countries.  It includes France, Singapore, Germany, Spain, Italy, and several others. It is that huge, as it is the number one fitness app in the UK and the United States.

Sweatcoin is an app that pays you for your steps and workout. It tracks your movement for the whole day and converts the steps into coins and rewards. It does not literally give you money as payment.  But, it gives you credits that you may spend on various offers. For example, when you walk for about 1,000 steps, you are rewarded with sweatcoins. If you use it continuously, these coins add up and you can start purchasing from their marketplace. Use your sweatcoins to redeem gifts, vouchers, food, and products for a free or cheaper price.

Now, how much money can an individual earn using Sweatcoin? For every 1,000 steps, you earn .95 sweatcoins. Some articles will tell you that you will be given 1 sweatcoin. That is partly true, but the remaining .05 is the commission they use to pay expenses. You can earn as much as you want as long as it is within the membership level limit.

Sweatcoin has over 160 brand partners that offer you things you can buy with the coins you have earned. These are classified into two: Daily Offers and Marathon Offers. Daily Offers are short-term saving goals. On the other hand, Marathon Offers are long-term saving goals. Together with the company’s 300+ partners, they provide products and services to all the members of Sweatcoin.

The “Daily Offers” consist of a variety of products. Users can choose from restaurant and holiday vouchers or workout clothes. There are also jewelry, watches, and even shaving products. These vary in prices from as low as 4 sweatcoins to as much as 1,500 sweatcoins. There are also vouchers for Amazon or PayPal credit. Some offers have 50% discount on products. These include accessories, watches, sunglasses, and several others. You can also get free language lessons or a month-long music subscription. All these products and services depend on the amount of sweatcoins you have. The longer you walk, the more sweatcoins you will earn.

The “Marathon Offers” are better but also harder to purchase. You need to be able to accumulate 6,000 to 9,000 sweatcoins on the low end of the spectrum. However, the app limits the sweatcoins you can earn. The maximum amount is 5 sweatcoins per day and 150 sweatcoins per month. Some of the amazing Marathon rewards are iPhones, $1,000 in cash, or a holiday voucher. There are also products worth around 20,000 sweatcoins such as a SmartTV or a headphone. These Marathon Offers are being updated from time to time. Alternatively, you can transfer sweatcoins to and from your friends’ accounts. This means you can combine your sweatcoins with your friends’. If you do, you can quickly earn bigger Marathon Offers.

How to Use Sweatcoin?

  1. Download the app and create an account

Make sure you have the Sweatcoin app installed on your mobile device. Create an account and open your location. After these, the app will immediately start counting your steps. You do not need to have the app open on your phone as it counts automatically. Remember, though, that the app is solely based on walking. Other activities like cycling or swimming will not earn you coins.

  1. Start walking

Initially, Sweatcoin uses GPS navigation to track your steps. That is why it requires you to walk on outside premises only. But recently, Sweatcoin has made it possible to count your steps even when you are just at home. However, due to compatibility issues, this new feature is only available for Android devices and iPhone 7 or later.

Once you open the app and let it run in the background, it will start registering your steps. Sweatcoin will reward you .95 Sweatcoins for every 1,000 steps you take. The good thing about this app is that it will still work even if your data is not active. Because of the GPS, it is functional even in non-wifi zones. Sure, it will not record your steps in real-time but the app will catch up and log your steps once you enter a wifi zone. Relatively, Sweatcoin uses latitude and longitude numbers to track your steps instead of visual maps. Therefore, you do not have to worry about your data usage.

  1. Cash in your sweatcoins and get rewards

The more sweatcoins you earn, the better and grander rewards you are eligible to. You can exchange your sweatcoins for various offers, may it be Daily or Marathon. Initially, the rewards are fitness-related products. Now, there are other varieties like holiday vouchers, restaurant discounts, and even gadgets.

Sweatcoin provides you with three ways on how you can earn coins. First, through walking, the main way to earn money in Sweatcoin. Grab your phone and the app will automatically count your every step. But at the moment, there is a limited amount of sweatcoins that a user can earn.

The second is through earning daily rewards. Sweatcoin gives you free sweatcoins if you watch a video ad for 20 seconds. If you watch one video a day, you will earn 1 sweatcoin. The next day, you get to have 2 sweatcoins, and the day after that, you can earn 4 sweatcoins. This is such a benefit considering you have to walk 4,000 steps to earn that many sweatcoins.

Lastly, you can earn sweatcoins by inviting your friends. Sweatcoins currently has a referral program. Meaning, every time you refer a friend to use and try the app, you get 5 sweatcoins. When you sign up for the app, there is an invitation link. You can copy this link and share it with your friends so they get the chance of getting paid by walking too. Refer more friends and get more rewards. You can also share your Sweatcoin link to some of your social media accounts.

Other Useful Features of Sweatcoin

This is one of the newest features of Sweatcoin. The then-called Mystery Bonus feature lets you earn up to 25 sweatcoins every day. Not only that, if you reach 1,000 steps, you can also take up to three spins and get exciting possible rewards. And, you get to unlock the second and third ad. In some instances, you only have to watch a 30-second game ad and you can get 1 to 25 sweatcoins maximum. If you always open the daily bonuses, there is a chance that you get more sweatcoins than usual.

Find Friends Section

Here, you can see an in-depth friend list of your followers and the people you follow. You can find and search for your friends by looking them up and connecting on Facebook. Or, add them from your Contact list. Encourage other people to join and earn 5 sweatcoins for each successful invite.  Connect with your friends to follow their progress. You can also transfer sweatcoins and challenge each other.

Crowdfunding

Sweatcoin also promotes good causes through the crowdfunding feature. You can use your earned coins and help different charity projects by some non-government organizations.  The company will give these organizations fiat currency. Once you have donated your sweatcoins, it can be euros, dollars, and pounds. As of this writing, one of the events in the feature is helping children who face abusive challenges. There is also a cause for saving bees and supporting sustainable livelihood in Rural Madagascar. The current Sweatcoin amount is shown per crowdfunding event.

Is Sweatcoin Legit Or A Scam?

There are various reviews from people proving that the Sweatcoin app is legit and not a scam. It may not give you real cash but you can purchase different products and services in actuality. If you are planning to buy something that is offered by Sweatcoin, you get to purchase it from the app using your coins.

Sweatcoin continues to update and improve its app that will be more helpful to the users. The fact that it has more than 10 million users and has even raised more than $5.7 million in a seed round from Goodwater Capital speaks for its legitimacy. Sweatcoin has also been recognized by some prominent magazines and newspapers.  Some of them are the New York Times, Forbes, and TechCrunch. Evidently, Sweatcoin is legitimate and trusted by a large community.

How Is Sweatcoin Different From Other Fitness Apps?

Sweatcoin is unique from all the apps that pay you to work out because it uses its own algorithm. They don’t count your steps by tracking your location. Meaning, your privacy is secured and the app is not aware of your whereabouts. Your data is yours alone and any of your information is not shared through a third party. Moreover, it uses latitude and longitude numbers to track your steps and not visual maps. Your phone’s battery is not an issue as the app has a battery saver option. You only need to tap on an icon on the main progress bar, and it will reduce the app’s battery usage.

Sweatcoin vs. Competitors

StepBet

If you like a fitness tracker that lets you be competitive, StepBet is the best one for you. Like Sweatcoin, you get paid by assessing the number of steps you make. But it has a whole different twist. You will be competing with other players as you hit your step goals. Once you sign up, you will connect with a fitness tracker and the app starts to calculate your steps. A user can only start a bet once the goal is accomplished. The goal must be achieved six times per game; otherwise, you lose.

Sweatcoin does not have this kind of feature. It is focusing on an individual’s indoor and outdoor steps. There is minimal social interaction with peers. With StepBet, you get to split the pot with other winners.

Runtopia

As Sweatcoin is emphasized on walking, Runtopia is focused on whole other exercises besides that. They set goals for walking, running, and cycling. During these workouts, there is an audio coach playing. Runtopia also offers in-app training programs. These will help you warm up, stretch, and lose weight. All these features are not found in the Sweatcoin app. They both have premium offers. Users can earn “coins” upon participating and completing daily tasks. Runtopia calls these “Sports Coins.” Unlike sweatcoins that do not expire, Sports Coins run out every March 1st of the year.

Lympo

Instead of just paying you for steps, as Sweatcoin does, Lympo pays you to complete running and walking challenges. The app is constantly updating with different challenges for its users. And if Sweatcoin uses coins, Lympo rewards are called “tokens.” What’s unique about Lympo is that the app lets you do exercises wherever. It does not matter if you are inside, outside, or stagnant on a treadmill. Lympo lets you connect with varieties of health trackers, unlike Sweatcoin. With this, you can get underlying preferences. The tokens have a real cash value, and in the present, it lets you redeem only products and not an actual wallet. Sweatcoin, on the other hand, offers real money. Lympo is expanding its rewards as it gives away Amazon gift cards and other products.

EarthMiles

Sweatcoin and EarthMiles similarly have a simple and well-designed app. Besides walking, Earthmiles pay you for running or biking. The catch is that you earn more EarthMiles if your exercises are harder. You get 1 EarthMile for a 1-km. walk, 3 EarthMiles for 1-km. cycling, and 5 EarthMiles for a 1-km. run. Like Sweatcoin, it also starts counting and ticking up the balance once you start moving. It also offers rewards that are mainly focused on health matters. These rewards can be discounts on supplements, services, and health products. Also, unlike in Sweatcoin, EarthMiles allows you to connect and add your friends. This way, you get to socialize with them and share each other’s progress. It is a bit similar to Sweatcoin, but only in terms of allowing you to send coins to your friends.

Final Word

Realistically speaking, you will never get rich just by using Sweatcoin. It really is not a suggested app if your main goal is to get tons of money from counting steps. But at the same time, it is realistic and helpful for someone to be fit, earn coins, and get rewards all in one app. The more you move, the more sweatcoins you earn and better rewards to purchase. Most importantly, the more you move, the fitter and healthier you may become.
