Who Is Yanfei in Genshin Impact?
Genshin Impact’s Yanfei first came out in Version 1.5 alongside Eula, a 5* Claymore. She is one of the strongest 4* characters in the game that makes for a great substitute if you don’t have characters like Klee in Genshin Impact. She is primarily a DPS character that deals massive amounts of Pyro DMG if she is built right.
Yanfei is a character from Liyue where she serves as a legal adviser to its residents. She is an Adeptus under the care of Madame Ping, a well-loved NPC in the game. Yanfei has a very active and playful nature but still takes her job very seriously. Notably, Yanfei is one of the very few Adepti who did not serve under Rex Lapis as she was born after the Archon War.

How to Get Yanfei in Genshin Impact?
Yanfei is a 4* Catalyst character that first came out in Genshin Impact’s Version 1.5 as a featured character in the Zhongli Rerun banner: Gentry of Hermitage. As of writing, Yanfei has seen a couple of reruns throughout the few months she’s been out. But apart from that, you can get Yanfei in all of Genshin Impact’s Wish Banners. Yanfei’s most recent feature was in Version 2.2’s Farewell of Snezhnaya where she was featured alongside Childe (the featured 5*), Chongyun, and Ningguang.
Unlike 5* Limited characters, whenever a 4* character is featured in a banner, it increases their drop rate. This means that you’ll have more chances of getting them. Even if Yanfei isn’t a featured 4* for a certain banner, you’ll still be able to get her in that banner.
How to Use Yanfei in Genshin Impact?
It might take a while to master Yanfei’s Combat Talents. This is because you have to take into account the Scarlet Seals that you gain from her Normal Attacks. But once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to use her with ease. Remember that getting to know her Combat Talents are essential because you will need to upgrade them regularly so that you can deal high amounts of DMG.
Combat Talents
In terms of Combat Talent, your talent priority should be Normal Attack > Elemental Burst > Elemental Skill. A bulk of her damage will come from her Normal Attacks so it’s best that you focus on that first before moving to max out her other talents.
Seal of Approval (Normal Attack) |

Signed Edict (Elemental Skill) |

Done Deal (Elemental Burst) |

Passive Talents
While you can’t upgrade or level up her Passive Talents, it’s still worth knowing because these provide Yanfei with additional buffs. It also gives players more inspiration to ascend Yanfei quickly.
Proviso (1st Ascension Passive) | Whenever a Scarlet Seal is consumed by a Charged Attack, Yanfei’s Pyro DMG Bonus will increase by 5%. |
Blazing Eye (4th Ascension Passive) | Yanfei’s Charged Attack deals an additional instance of AoE Pyro DMG when it deals a Crit Hit to opponents. |
Encyclopedic Expertise (Utility Passive) | Shows Liyue’s local specialties on the mini-map. |
What Are Yanfei’s Constellations?
Since Yanfei is a 4* character, it’s easier to gain her constellations because you can get copies of her on all available banners. However, keep in mind that you don’t necessarily need her constellations to deal large amounts of damage because you can make up for that with her constellations. But if you’re looking to build her as a Support character, you will need at least four of her constellations. This is because she is only viable as a Shield Support.
- The Law Knows No Kindness – Each existing Scarlet Seal will additionally reduce the stamina cost of her Charged Attack by 10%. It will also increase her resistance against interruption when casting the Charged Attack.
- Right of Final Interpretation – Increases the Crit Rate of Yanfei’s Charged Attack by 20% when enemies’ HP is below 50%.
- Samadhi Fire-Forged – Increases the maximum upgrade level of Signed Edict to 15.
- Supreme Amnesty – Creates a shield whenever Done Deal is cast. The shield absorbs Pyro DMG more effectively.
- Abiding Affidavit – Increases the maximum upgrade level of Done Deal to 15.
- Extra Clause – Increases the maximum number of Yanfei’s Scarlet Seals by 1.
Best Genshin Impact Yanfei Build
The best build for Yanfei is a DPS build because she primarily serves as that role in a team. Most players find it hard to turn her into a Support character because her skill set mainly focuses on dealing damage instead of supporting other characters. However, it’s not entirely impossible to turn her into a Support character — provided that the conditions are right.

Ideally, a full Crimson Witch of Flames set is the best option for Yanfei in Genshin Impact if you intend to build her as a DPS. However, if you don’t have that yet or if you’re looking for placeholders until you get better artifacts, you can opt for a full Wanderer’s Troupe set until you get better artifacts. Either way, both options will still be able to give you high amounts of damage provided that you have the right stats.
In terms of weapons, the best one to consider is The Widsith or the Mappa Mare because you can easily obtain them. However, you might benefit more from The Widsith because they can gain an increase in ATK, Elemental DMG, and Elemental Mastery. This depends on how long your character is on the field as this effect only occurs once every 30 seconds. If you have 5* weapons, you can also use them, but it’s not necessary to get the highest amount of damage because you can always make up for it with the artifacts.
Support Yanfei Build

Essentially, you cannot build Yanfei as a Support Character. However, if you’re one of the lucky players who have a Yanfei with four constellations, building her as a Shield Support becomes an option because she earns the ability to activate a shield at that stage. In that case, the best artifact set for her is a full Retracing Bolide set because increases shield strength. It also gives Normal and Charged Attacks a boost. This is great for Yanfei because she relies on her Normal Attack to make damage regardless of build.
A support Yanfei has the same weapons as she would when you build her as DPS. However, you can consider other options like the Solar Pearl or the Blackcliff Agate in this build. This is to help the character deal damage that might have been lost because you’re putting the focus on building up her Shield Strength rather than damage output.
What Is the Best Team Composition for Yanfei?
Since Yanfei is primarily a DPS character, the team compositions in this guide will focus on her as the main DPS. If you want to use her as a Support character, you can simply replace her with the Pyro DPS of your choice and make her into your Battery or Sub-DPS. Take note of the Elemental Reactions that you can create per team because these will trigger more damage and will get rid of enemies easier.
Recommended Team Composition
- DPS – Yanfei
- Reaction – Xingqiu
- Shield – Zhongli
- Healer – Bennett
With this composition, Yanfei and Xingqiu will work hand-in-hand to deliver Vaporize DMG to opponents. Since Xingqiu inflicts constant Hydro to enemies, you’ll be able to continuously inflict Vaporize. Zhongli will help to debuff enemies with his shield (assuming that you don’t have a C4 Yanfei) and also give crown control measures with his burst. Finally, Bennett will be your main Healer and Support because he gives buffs to the team with his Burst. Bennett also works as a Battery for Yanfei so that she can use her Elemental Skill and Burst more frequently.
F2P-Friendly Team Composition
- DPS – Yanfei
- Sub-DPS – Xiangling
- Healer – Barbara
- Reaction – Kaeya
Yanfei will again serve as your Main DPS in this composition. Xiangling will become your Sub-DPS as well as the Battery so that you can spam Yanfei’s Elemental Skill and Burst. Barbara will serve as your Healer. She can also spread Hydro for a Vaporize reaction. Finally, Kaeya will be your main reactor because he can spread Cryo so you can deal Melt reactions.
How to Ascend Yanfei in Genshin Impact?
Newbies might find it difficult to farm for Yanfei’s materials, especially since you have to fight the Primo Geovishap to get the Juvenile Jade that’s essential for her ascension. However, you can always opt to get your friends to help you with Genshin Impact’s Co-Op mode so that you can get the materials that you need.
In terms of the Noctilucous Jade, her local specialty, you can easily farm for these in areas around Liyue (specifically Mingyun Village). Just remember to bring a Claymore character with you so that you can mine the Jade because it’ll be hard for Sword characters to do so.
Lastly, Insignias from Treasure Hoarders are the easiest to get as you can battle them around Teyvat. In general, the materials for Yanfei in Genshin Impact might take you around a week or two to collect — depending on how often you play the game or how long you spend on it.
