The only legal way to get Minecraft for free on mobile is to download the official Minecraft Trial on an Android device. If you want to get Minecraft for free on mobile without risking malware or breaking the law, this trial is your single legitimate option.
The only legal way to get Minecraft for free on mobile
There is one legitimate method to play Minecraft on your phone without paying: the official Minecraft Trial for Android. This is a free, time-limited demo provided directly by Mojang. Minecraft Earth is a free-to-play augmented reality (AR) mobile game that provides a legal way to experience Minecraft without paying. Minecraft Realms offers a free trial period for new users, allowing legal multiplayer gameplay on mobile for a limited time. Official Minecraft promotions or giveaways occasionally offer the Bedrock Edition for free on mobile. Stick to the official trial to stay safe and legal.
How to download and start the Minecraft Trial on Android
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
- Search for "Minecraft Trial" or "Minecraft - Pocket Edition Demo".
- Select the official listing from Mojang and tap "Install".
- Once installed, open the app and tap "Play" to begin your free session.
Minecraft Mobile Edition is available on Windows Phone via the Microsoft Store. Minecraft Mobile Edition is available on Amazon Fire tablets via the Amazon Appstore. Minecraft Mobile Edition is available on Huawei devices via the Huawei AppGallery. The trial lets you experience core survival gameplay within infinite worlds, exactly like the full game, but with strict limits.
What you can (and can't) do in the free trial
The Android trial version allows you to play single-player Survival mode in an infinite world. However, it is limited to 90 to 100 minutes of gameplay (roughly five in-game days). Creative mode, multiplayer, and Realms are not available. Critically, any worlds you create during the trial do not transfer to the full version of the game, meaning all your progress is permanently lost once the timer runs out.
Is there a free trial for iPhone or iPad?
No. There is no official free trial of Minecraft on the Apple App Store for iPhone or iPad. The only way to play Minecraft on iOS is to purchase the full game. Be extremely wary of any third-party app or website claiming to offer a free version for Apple devices, these are almost always scams.
Why you should avoid 'free' Minecraft APK downloads
Downloading "Mod APKs" or pirated versions of Minecraft from unofficial websites is dangerous. These files often contain malware or viruses that can steal your personal data or damage your device. Beyond the security risk, using pirated software does not support the developers who create and update the game. Even if you are looking for popular mobile game recommendations, never download Minecraft from an unofficial source. Likewise, if you are tempted by ads promising free full versions, you should block mobile game ads to avoid these malicious offers entirely.
What about Minecraft Education Edition?
Minecraft Education Edition is a game-based learning platform available on mobile for schools and organizations. It is designed for creative, inclusive learning in a classroom setting and is not a free version of standard Minecraft for personal use. Do not confuse it with a way to get the regular game for free.
