How Are the Characters in Fire Emblem Heroes Categorized?

Each hero in Fire Emblem Heroes is tied to the type of weapon they wield. In the game, there are three main unit colors that distinguish each weapon type from one another: Blue, Red, and Green; together, they make up the game’s iconic Weapon Triangle system. But outside those three main unit colors exists another weapon type: Colorless. Heroes that use Colorless weapons don’t have color disadvantages and are strong against certain movement types.

Fire Emblem Heroes Tier List Explained

Fire Emblem Heroes
Photo from Nintendo

Just like in most tactical role-playing video games, the units in Fire Emblem Heroes can be ranked using tier lists. In our Fire Emblem Heroes tier list, we rank each hero according to the effectiveness of their skills and their overall combat performance. Topping our list are the SS-tier heroes, and down at the very bottom are the C-tier heroes. The higher up in the tier a hero is, the stronger they are and the more effective they are in battles and quests. We’ll discuss each tier in more detail below.

SS Tier

SS-tier units are the most powerful bunch in Fire Emblem Heroes. These are the units you’ll want to use in tough battles since they can dish out and take the most damage. On top of that, they also tend to possess unique and powerful skills and weapons, so they don’t need much help from support allies.

S Tier

Although not as powerful as SS-tier units, S-tier heroes still boast incredible prowess that’ll help you during battles and quests. They’re highly valuable members of a team since they’re usually resistant to common threats in the game. If you invest in them and team them up with the right units, they can even be as strong as SS-tier heroes.

A Tier

Their stats may not be as impressive as those in the higher tiers, but many A-tier heroes have access to powerful skills and assists that make them valuable additions to a team. With the right support, they can lead you to victory.

B Tier

Middle-of-the-pack units make up the B tier of our Fire Emblem Heroes tier list. That said, they can still pack quite a punch in the right hands. Many B-tier heroes don’t have specialized stat allocations, and they often can’t fend off enemies by themselves. However, they do offer niche skills that can be useful in certain sticky situations. Additional merges, lots of resource investment, and the right support will help a B-tier hero perform as effectively as higher-ranking units.

C Tier

C-tier heroes have passable skills that you can use against certain enemies. However, their below-average combat potential makes them less likely to contribute much during battles. They aren’t entirely useless, but they do have more noticeable weaknesses than heroes in higher tiers. You’ll need to invest in them heavily for them to be an asset to your team.

Fire Emblem Heroes Tier List: Blue Heroes

First up in our Fire Emblem Heroes tier list are Blue heroes, which have an advantage over Red heroes. They can deal considerable damage to Red units even if they have lower stats or have less powerful skills. That said, they are weak against Green heroes.

Fire Emblem Heroes Tier List: Colorless Heroes

Colorless units in Fire Emblem Heroes are special since they exist outside the Weapon Triangle system. Thus, you can use them in battles without worrying about whether they’re weak or strong against their opponent’s color type. With Colorless heroes, you’ll need to pay attention to your unit’s weapon as this dictates what movement type or weapon they’re weak against.
