Pokémon Unite Tier List: The Best Pokémon and Teams

Mobile Games

Pokémon Unite has only been around for a while, but it’s quickly becoming one of the best Pokémon games of all time. This MOBA game has a straightforward premise, fun gameplay, and some of the adorable pocket creatures we know and love. That said, it can be tricky to score points and win matches in the game, especially if you don’t know which Pokémon to pick and how to build the best team. Luckily, you have our Pokémon Unite tier list.

In this list, we use a four-tier system (S, A, B, and C) to show you which ones are the overall best Pokémon in Pokémon Unite. Pokémon in the S tier are the most powerful ones in the bunch, so you’ll definitely want these on your team. They’re followed by A-tier Pokémon and then by B-tier ones. Pokémon in the C tier are still valuable members of any team, but they don’t pack as much punch as the higher-grade ones.

In this guide, we also show you how each Pokémon ranks in its respective roles — whether they’re an All-Rounder, an Attacker, a Defender, a Speedster, or a Supporter. Plus, we give you some tips on how to build the best Pokémon Unite team and give you examples of strong, well-balanced team compositions.

NOTE

This Pokémon Unite tier list isn’t final yet. The game is still building its roster of playable characters; as of writing, you can only take 39 out of the 898 Pokémon in the entire franchise to battle. However, more will surely be added in the months to come, and the rankings are bound to change with every addition. Thus, make sure to check back on this list for updates.

Pokemon Unite

In the table below, we rank all 39 playable Pokémon Unite characters in tiers. But note that, within each tier, we do not list the Pokémon in any particular order.

S Lucario, Tsareena, Pikachu, Venusaur, Snorlax, Mr. Mime, Buzzwole, Hoopa, Tyranitar
A Dragonite, Cinderace, Sylveon, Greninja, Greedent, Blastoise, Crustle, Gengar, Blissey, Wigglytuff, Aegislash, Azumarill, Delphox, Espeon, Glaceon
B Charizard, Garchomp, Decidueye, Alolan Ninetales, Cramorant, Mamoswine, Slowbro, Talonflame, Zeraora, Eldegoss, Duraludon, Trevenant
C Machamp, Gardevoir, Absol

We discuss each of these Pokémon’s roles and ranking in more detail below.

Pokémon Unite Tier List: All-Rounder

All-Rounder Pokémon are highly reliable since you can use them to deal damage and defend your team. Pokémon of this sort are very tenacious, and they sport balanced endurance and offense stats. Thus, you can use them as tanks, damage dealers, or junglers. Currently, there are 10 All-Rounder Pokémon in Pokémon Unite. We rank all of them for you in the tier list below:

S Tsareena, Lucario, Tyranitar, Buzzwole
A Dragonite, Aegislash, Azumarill
B Charizard, Garchomp
C Machamp

Tsareena, Lucario, Buzzwole, and Tyranitar are our top picks for All-Rounder Pokémon for their outstanding mobility, endurance, and offense stats. Tsareena is particularly excellent when it comes to crowd control, thanks to its powerful moveset and its ability to regain HP after dealing damage. Lucario can also deal considerable damage with its powerful moves, like Bone Rush and Extreme Speed. Buzzwole joins the elite list of All-Rounders for its solid defense and damage potential that can rival any Pokémon. Tyranitar’s hard-hitting moves, especially in the late game, are hard to ignore too. Although you may find it defenseless in the early game, it can turn the tide when it reaches its power spike.

Dragonite isn’t at par with Lucario and Tsareena when it comes to endurance and mobility. That said, it does pack quite a punch when it comes to offense, especially if you put its Unite Move, Draco Impact, to use. Aegislash and Azumarill share the A-tier spot with Dragonite for their ability to adapt to lane assignment and scale fast in the early game, respectively.

Both Charizard and Garchomp have excellent offense and endurance stats. With Charizard, you can unleash heavy attacks with Fire Punch and its Unite Move, Seismic Slam. Garchomp is capable of dealing considerable damage, too. But, although they’re both forces to be reckoned with, Charizard and Garchomp take a while before they can reach their full potential.

Machamp is great at melee combat and boasts a high offense stats. However, its other stats just aren’t up to par with its fellow All-Rounder Pokémon.

Pokémon Unite Tier List: Attacker

Attacker Pokemon in Pokemon Unite

Attacker Pokémon are your best bet if you’re looking for Pokémon Unite characters that can effectively deal heavy damage even from a distance. That said, be careful with who you pair them up against since they have low endurance stats.

As of writing, the Attacker role has the most number of playable characters in Pokémon Unite, with a total of 13 Pokémon fulfilling this role. The Pokémon Unite tier list below shows you how these Attackers measure up against one another:

S Venusaur, Pikachu
A Sylveon, Greninja, Cinderace, Delphox, Espeon, Glaceon
B Decidueye, Alolan Ninetales, Cramorant, Duraludon
C Gardevoir

Venusaur and Pikachu top our Attacker Pokémon Unite tier list for their extraordinary offense stats. Venusaur, for instance, has the ability to deal immensely powerful damage to multiple opponents, even from a distance. With Giga Drain and Petal Dance, it can regain some health points it loses. Pikachu can also land powerful ranged attacks and can even paralyze opponents. Plus, it’s very easy to obtain.

Sylveon, Greninja, and Cinderace are also excellent damage dealers, but they do require a bit of setting up. That said, you can easily level them up by using them to fight wild Pokémon early in the game. Delphox, Espeon, and Glaceon join the second-row tier for their team fight abilities: debuff for Delphox, burst damage for Espeon, and counter against crowd control for Glaceon.

Attacker Pokémon in the C-tier has great offensive stats as well. However, they do possess a few weaknesses that considerably bump them down in our tier system. Decidueye, for one, has very poor mobility, while Alolan Ninetales has very low endurance. Cramorant, on the other hand, is great at dealing damage but can be quite tough to master.

Gardevoir unleashes an insane amount of damage but can only do so late in the game.

Pokémon Unite Tier List: Defender

As you’ve probably gathered from the name of their role, Defender Pokémon do well when it comes to protecting their teammates. They are also great at stopping opponents from dealing considerable damage. But although they have excellent endurance, they’re not the best at offense.

There are currently seven Defender Pokémon in Pokémon Unite, namely Slowbro, Greedent, Blastoise, Mamoswine, Snorlax, Crustle, and Trevenant. Here’s how they rank in Pokémon Unite:

S Snorlax
A Crustle, Blastoise, Greedent
B Mamoswine, Slowbro, Trevenant
C

Snorlax has the highest endurance stat among all Defender Pokémon, so it clearly deserves the top spot. It can take a lot of hits and still power through with only the slightest dent to its health. With Yawn and Block, Snorlax makes it difficult for the other team to score goals. Plus, with Power Nap, which is its Unite Move, it can roll around and attack opponents even while dozing off.

Crustle, Blastoise, Greedent, and Trevenant all have the traits of a great defender, but they fall short on a few aspects. For instance, Crustle can easily divide the other team up and block attacks from them. However, it can easily be defeated by about half of the Pokémon in Pokémon Unite. Blastoise can be a reliable defender, but it starts off weak during battles. While Greedent has great endurance and mobility stats, it relies heavily on berries, and its moves can be tough to aim. Trevenant, on the other hand, is a durable Pokémon that provides cover to allies but deals damage to itself at the same time.

Mamoswine and Slowbro both also have the makings of an excellent defender, but they’re in the B tier for a few reasons. For one, Mamoswine’s damage output is middling at best. Also, you can only unlock its Unite Move at level 10. As for Slowbro, it has very low mobility, so an opponent can easily take it down with a long-ranged attack.

Pokémon Unite Tier List: Speedster

Speedster Pokemon

If you need characters that can score lots of points and make quick attacks, then you should add Speedster Pokémon to your team. They boast high offense and mobility stats, making them great at taking down wild Pokémon quickly. Currently, there are only four Speedster Pokémon you can take to battle in Pokémon Unite: Zeraora, Absol, Gengar, and Talonflame. You can get a Pokémon Unite license for Talonflame right after you’ve completed the tutorial.

We show you how all of the Speedster Pokémon rank in the game in this Pokémon Unite tier list:

S
A Gengar
B Talonflame, Zeraora
C Absol

Pokémon Unite is yet to release a Speedster Pokémon that we can put in the S tier. Nonetheless, Gengar does an excellent job as an A-tier Speedster Pokémon in Pokémon Unite, thanks to recent patches. With practice, this Pokémon can become almost invincible if you use Dream Eater or Hex as its move. Gengar can also sneak up on unsuspecting opponents and attack them, thanks to Phantom Ambush (its Unite Move).

Talonflame and Zeraora both boast excellent mobility stats, but they have a few considerable weak spots. With Talonflame, for instance, you need an early game advantage for it to be an effective Speedster Pokémon. But if you do, it’s basically unstoppable. Zeraora, on the other hand, only became weaker because of recent updates, which made its Unite Move (Plasma Gale) and best move less powerful than it used to be.

While Absol has no problem dealing with critical hits, it does rely on taking opponents out quickly to survive. If there’s even the slightest delay when Absol attacks, it’s highly likely to get killed. Thus, it’s not the best Pokémon to use if you haven’t mastered the game yet.

Pokémon Unite Tier List: Supporter

Supporter Pokemon
Photo from Pokémon Unite

The Supporter role is at par with Speedster Pokémon for having the least number of characters, with only five Pokémon currently in its roster: Blissey, Eldegoss, Mr. Mime, Hoopa, and Wigglytuff. This Pokémon Unite tier list illustrates how they all fare against one another:

S Mr. Mime, Hoopa
A Wigglytuff, Blissey
B Eldegoss
C

Unlike Speedster Pokémon, the current roster of Supporter Pokémon occupies the higher tiers, with Mr. Mime and Hoopa in the top spot. You can rely on Mr. Mime to split up the opposing team and steer them away from your team’s goals. Plus, with Showtime! as its Unite Move, it’s able to confuse and stun nearby opponents. As a result, opponents are hindered from dealing effective damage. Hoopa is also a revelation and is one of the best utility options for its ability to boost your team’s offensive capabilities.

Wigglytuff and Blissey are both powerful Supporters as well. Wigglytuff is an excellent Pokémon for crowd control, with its ability to stun and make opponents doze off during battle. In addition, Wigglytuff has the ability to protect itself and its surrounding allies, thanks to Starlight Recital. On the other hand, Blissey has the ability to help damaged teammates while protecting them from further attacks. Plus, it can also repair status conditions.

Eldegoss is another valuable Supporter Pokémon in Pokémon Unite with an excellent support stat. However, the only reason it’s in the B tier is the arrival of Blissey, which bumped down its usefulness during battles.

Building the Best Team in Pokémon Unite

Now that you know the ranking of each playable Pokémon in Pokémon Unite, it would also be handy to know how to build the best team. Having a strong team composition in Pokémon Unite isn’t just about filling your team only with S-tier Pokémon. You also need to keep in mind a few other things, like balance and the class that a particular Pokémon is in. In the next section, we give you a few tips on how to build the best team in Pokémon Unite.

1. Limit the number of three-evolution Pokémon on your team.

When you’re picking out a team for a Pokémon Unite battle, try to avoid selecting three-evolution Pokémon. Or if you can’t avoid them altogether, try only having around two of these Pokémon on your team. Some examples of three-evolution Pokémon are Charizard, Greninja, and Machamp. Pokémon of this sort take a while to reach their full potential during combat, and since you don’t have an unlimited amount of time to take out the opposing team, this isn’t really ideal. You’ll want Pokémon that can be powerful from the get-go. Otherwise, your team might suffer from damage early in the game, and they might not be able to bounce back from it.

2. Have a balance of melee and ranged Pokémon on your team.

Although there are currently more melee Pokémon than ranged ones in Pokémon Unite, try not to build an all-melee team. That’s because you’ll find it hard to find your footing in the game if you only have Pokémon that can only attack by getting close to your opponents. Similarly, you don’t want a team that can only attack from a distance either. Thus, it’s best to have a balance of both classes on your team. But if you really don’t have a lot of ranged Pokémon to use during battle, try to have at least one. Some examples of ranged Pokemon are Dragonite, Sylveon, and Alolan Ninetales. If you need melee Pokémon, some examples are Zeraora, Tsareena, and Talonflame.

3. Make sure to cover all bases.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, all bases should be covered when you’re building your team. That means you’ll want to have members that complement each other’s skills and make up for each other’s weak points. A general rule to follow is to have one tank, two damage dealers, one support, and one jungler on your team. The table below shows you the ideal Pokémon for each role:

Role Can Be Fulfilled By
Tank Defender or All-Rounder Pokémon
Damage Dealer Attacker, All-Rounder, or Speedster Pokémon
Support Support Pokémon
Jungler Speedster or All-Rounder Pokémon

Here are a few examples of strong and well-balanced Pokémon Unite team compositions:

  • Lucario, Eldegoss, Cinderace, Snorlax, Alolan Ninetales
  • Wigglytuff, Blissey, Zeraora, Snorlax, Alolan Ninetales
  • Lucario, Eldegoss, Greninja, Wigglytuff, Venusaur

Final Thoughts

Pokémon Unite is a thoroughly enjoyable MOBA game, but picking out the best All-Rounder, Attacker, Defender, Speedster, and Supporter for your team can be quite tricky. Hopefully, with the help of this guide, you’ve discovered which Pokémon you should obtain and which ones you should put in a team together. Happy gaming!
