Who Is Ningguang?
Ningguang is one of Genshin Impact’s playable Geo characters. She is a 4-star Catalyst and undoubtedly one of the best characters in the game because you can use her for both offense and defense. Many players consider Ningguang to be one of the best Catalyst characters in the game because she can deal high amounts of damage that can be comparable to that of Genshin Impact’s Klee, a well-known DPS Catalyst.
She serves as the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing, the governing body of Liyue. Ningguang also owns the Jade Chamber, one of the game’s most iconic locations.
Players first encounter this extraordinary woman in “Chapter 1, Act I: Of the Land Amidst Monoliths” and again in “Act III: A New Star Approaches”. Apart from that, she’s a recurring character that you will be able to see in future story quests and events.

How to Get Ningguang on Genshin Impact?
Ningguang is a 4* character which means that you’ll be able to get her on all available banners. Expect that you’ll have a slim chance of obtaining this character because of her character rarity. Since Genshin Impact has a lot of 4* characters, you will have to rely on lady luck if you want to get Ningguang in the game, especially if she doesn’t have a drop-rate boost.
She has, however, been a featured character with a drop-rate boost in Four Limited banners in the past. The latest one is the “Farewell of Snezhnaya” banner that featured Childe as the 5* character along with Ningguang, Chongyun, and Yanfei as the 4* characters.
The great thing about Ningguang’s character rating is that you’ll easily get more copies of her. This means that you’ll be able to complete her constellations faster if you’re extremely lucky.
How to Use Ningguang on Genshin Impact?
Getting to know Ningguang’s talents is essential to be able to build her properly. You need to know the basics of her talents so you can decide which ones to prioritize. Talent priorities usually vary depending on the build so you’ll have to consider that when you’re farming for Ningguang’s Talent Materials.
Here’s a quick rundown of Ningguang’s Combat and Passive talents to help you out:
Combat Talents
Generally, the talent priority for Ningguang is Normal Attack > Elemental Burst > Elemental Skill. This only changes if you’re looking to make Ningguang into a Support character. In that case, your talent priority will change to Elemental Burst > Elemental Skill > Normal Attack. Her Support Build turns her into a quick swap character that requires her to deliver high burst damage in a short time before you swap her out with another character.

Passive Talents
As far as her Passive Talents go, the most beneficial of the three is her Utility Passive, Trove of Marvelous Treasures. This allows you to harvest ores faster so you can farm for them more efficiently across Teyvat. You can’t level these up with Talent Materials so you’ll have to ascend Ningguang for these to be unlocked.
Backup Plan (1st Ascension Passive) | Ningguang’s Charged Attack doesn’t consume stamina if you have Star Jades. |
Strategic Reserve (4th Ascension Passive) | Whenever a character passes through the Jade Screen, it will gain an additional 12% Geo DMG Bonus. |
Trove of Marvelous Treasures (Utility Passive) | Shows the location of nearby ores on the mini-map. |
What are Ningguang’s Constellations?
As previously mentioned, Ningguang is a 4* character which makes her constellations easy to obtain. However, as with other Genshin Impact characters, completing her constellations will mean nothing if you don’t have a strong build to help her out. That said, always keep in mind that the character’s build and constellations work hand-in-hand to make your character stronger. Nonetheless, you don’t necessarily need to complete her constellations if you want a stronger character as you can make up for it with her artifacts and weapons.
Here’s a quick rundown of Ningguang’s constellations for your reference:
- Piercing Fragments – AoE DMG is dealt whenever a Normal Attack hits an opponent.
- Shock Effect – The Jade Screen’s cooldown will reset when it’s shattered.
- Majesty be the Array of Stars – Increases the maximum level upgrade of Starshatter to 15.
- Exquisite be the Jade, Outshining All Beneath – The Jade Screen increases the Elemental Resistance of nearby characters by 10%.
- Invincible be the Jade Screen – Increases the maximum level upgrade of the Jade Screen to 15.
- Grandeur be the Seven Stars – Ningguang gains seven (7) Star Jades whenever she uses Starshatter.
Best Ningguang Genshin Impact Build
You can build Ningguang as either a DPS character or a Support character. Nonetheless, you’ll still be able to deal massive amounts of damage regardless of the build that you follow. Her Support build only makes her more amenable for quick swap situations and more built to focus on the Jade Screen. You can use both builds and see which one is the best for your playing style.
Recommended / DPS Ningguang Build
Weapon | Artifacts |
|
|
Ningguang’s recommended build doubles as her DPS. The best artifacts to have will be a two-piece Archaic Petra with a two-piece Noblesse Oblige. The two-piece Archaic Petra grants an additional 15% Geo DMG Bonus while the two-piece Noblesse Oblige grants an additional 20% Elemental Burst DMG. With this, you’ll be able to deal a great amount of DMG with all of her attacks.
For weapons, the best one that you can get is the Memory of Dust or the Skyward Atlas. Both of them have Flat ATK and ATK% as their main and substats which is great for Ningguang. If you don’t have either as they are 5* weapons, you can also opt for The Widsith or the Eye of Perception as substitutes. Both 4* weapons are great but The Widsith is more preferable because of its Crit DMG substat. The Solar Pearl is better than both 4* weapons because of its Crit Rate substat but it’s the Battle Pass weapon which means that you’ll have to purchase it which is not necessary if you have The Widsith and a good artifact with Crit Rate as its main stat.
Support Ningguang Build

For a Support Ningguang, the best artifact set that you can use is a complete Retracing Bolide set because of Ningguang’s Jade Screen. Alternatively, you can use a two-piece Archaic Petra with a two-piece Emblem of Severed Fate so you can collect more energy to spam her Elemental Skill and Burst while still dealing a significant amount of damage. For weapons, it’s the same case as the DPS weapons but the best 5* weapon for this build is the Skyward Atlas while the best 4* weapon is the Blackcliff Agate with its Crit DMG substat.
What is the Best Team Composition for Ningguang?
Most players use Ningguang as their DPS, hence, we will be following a DPS Ningguang for this team composition. For a support team composition, simply swap out Ningguang with your preferred DPS as the following set-ups will work with most DPS characters.
Recommended Team
- DPS – Ningguang
- Shield – Zhongli
- Healer / Support – Bennett
- Sub-DPS – Xingqiu
With Ningguang as your DPS, you might want to place Xingqiu as your Sub-DPS. Since Ningguangg uses her Normal Attack a lot, having Xingqiu will help greatly. You can add Zhongli to your team as well as he can supply a shield and facilitate crowd control. Having another Geo character in the team will also help you to spam Ningguang’s Elemental Skill and Burst faster. Finally, Bennett will be your Healer and Support character as he provides buffs and heals with his Elemental Burst.
F2P-Friendly Team
- DPS – Ningguang
- Sub-DPS / Shield / Battery – Noelle
- Sub-DPS – Thoma
- Healer – Barbara
- Support / Crowd Control – Sucrose
For this set-up, Ningguang remains as your DPS. Noelle can serve as your Sub-DPS and double as the shield and battery so you can easily recharge Ningguang’s energy and heal at the same time. You can, however, swap out Noelle for a Thoma (assuming that you have already built him). You won’t be able to recharge energy as fast but you will still have a shield and a stronger Sub-DPS. Barbara will be your main healer as most users will have this character right off the bat. Lastly, Sucrose will serve as your primary support and crowd control as she can keep enemies away from Ningguang. Sucrose’s Swirl will also work well with Thoma and Barbara.
How to Ascend Ningguang in Genshin Impact
Building Ningguang takes a great deal of patience because finding the perfect artifacts for her will take time. You can expect the same thing with her Ascension Materials. For this, you will have to face the Geo Hypostasis multiple times and that is by no means an easy enemy, especially if you’re still a beginner. Before the release of the Serenitea Teapot, you had to wait days for Glaze Lilies to respawn around Liyue which contributes to the time that you need to spend collecting materials for Ningguang. Now, you can plant Glaze Lilies in your teapot so you don’t have to worry about it too much. Lastly, you will need to face a couple of Fatui Skirmishers to complete the insignias for Ningguang’s ascension. Fret not, there are a lot of Fatui Skirmishers in Liyue so you won’t have a problem.
PHASE | LEVELS | MORA COST | ASCENSION MATERIALS | LOCAL SPECIALTIES | COMMON MATERIALS |
1 | 20 – 40 | 20,000 | x1 Prithiva Topaz Sliver | x3 Glaze Lily | x3 Recruit’s Insignia |

Ningguang Genshin Impact: The Best Geo Catalyst
Ningguang is undoubtedly one of Genshin Impact’s strongest Catalyst characters. She might be a 4* but she is comparable to characters like Klee in terms of damage output. Further, Ningguang’s gameplay isn’t only about being a DPS, as you can easily turn her into a Support character whenever necessary. She’s flexible yet very effective in every role that she plays. She will easily become a staple in your team once you get the hang of using her. Once you build her properly, you’ll certainly have one of the best offenses or defenses in the game.
