Who is Baal?
Baal, also known as the Raiden Shogun, is Genshin Impact’s first Electro polearm character. She is the Electro Archon who rules over the nation of Inazuma. Baal is also the first female Archon to be released and at the moment, she takes her place as the only playable female Archon in the game.
In the start, Baal was a tyrant who enforced the Vision Hunt Decree in Inazuma. This movement aimed to rid the “Nation of Eternity” of the Visions that gave individuals Elemental powers. The Decree began a revolution in Inazuma which the Traveler (player character) became an important part of. Her tyrannical rule came to an end after a fierce battle with the Traveler.
At present, Baal has become a more peaceful ruler and has changed her perspective regarding certain aspects. She aims to become a better ruler for the sake of her people.
Baal first appeared in the 2.0 update as a non-playable character but when Version 2.1 was released, Baal became a playable 5* Electro character.

Baal’s first character banner ran from September 1, 2021, to September 21, 2021. Her banner was the first to come out of the game’s 2.1 Updates. As of writing, it is unknown when Baal will get a banner rerun.
How to Use Baal on Genshin Impact?
It’s essential that you are familiar with Baal’s Talents. At a glance, her Combat Talents look complicated but once you get the hand of using Baal in-game, it will be easy to master and understand. You might want to take a mental note of her talents, especially the Combat Talents because you’ll need to have an understanding of it when you start to level up talents.
With that, here’s a rundown of Baal’s Combat and Passive talents:
Combat Talents
As far as priorities go, you need to focus on her Elemental Burst and Elemental Skill. Only start to level up her Normal Attack when you have already maxed out her Elemental Skill and Burst. Dedicate your resources in leveling these two talents first because this is where the bulk of her damage comes from.
Origin (Normal Attack) |
|
Transcendence: Baleful Omen (Elemental Skill) |
|
Secret Art: Musou Shinsetsu (Elemental Burst) |
|
Passive Talents
Baal’s passive skills mostly focus on her party members and the recharge of her skills. While you can’t level them up, it’s great to still take note of them so that you can stay aware of what her passive skills can do.
Wishes Unnumbered (1st Ascension Passive) | Whenever party members gain Elemental Orbs, Baal’s Chakra Desiderata will gain 2 resolve stacks. |
Enlightened One (4th Ascension Passive) | For each 1% above 100% Energy Recharge, Baal will get greater energy restoration and an increase in Electro DMG Bonus. |
All-Preserver (Utility Passive) | The cost of ascending Swords and Polearms will decrease by 50%. |
What Are Baal’s Constellations?
To get Baal’s constellations, you will get duplicates of her in wishes. Regardless, you don’t need to have constellations to boost Baal’s skills. You can always make up for it with artifacts and weapons.
That said, here’s a rundown of Baal’s constellations in case you want to collect her constellations in the future:
- Ominous Inscription – Gathers Resolve faster. The Resolve increases to 80% whenever Electro characters use their Elemental Burst. When characters of other Elements use their Burst, the Resolve will increase by 20%.
- Steelbreaker – Attacks from Musou no Hitotachi and Musou Isshin will ignore the DEF of their opponents by 60%.
- Shinkage Bygones – Maximum level of Secret Art: Musou Shinsetsu increases by 3.
- Pledge of Propriety – When Secret Art: Musou Shinsetsu ends, nearby party members will gain a 30% ATK bonus.
- Shogun’s Descent – Maximum level of Transcendence: Baleful Omen increases by 3.
- Wishbearer – Baal’s Normal Attacks will decrease all of her party members’ Elemental Burst cooldown by 1 second when Secret Art: Musou Shinsetsu is active and Baal hits opponents.
Best Genshin Impact Baal Build
Baal is primarily a DPS and it’s not recommended that you use her as a support. However, Baal has a flexible skillset that will allow you to build her in a variety of ways. Of course, your main build for Baal should be a DPS build or an Electro DPS build because this is her main purpose. But you can also build her as a support with the right artifacts.
Here are a couple of builds that you can try for Baal in Genshin Impact:
Recommended Build For Baal
Weapon | Artifacts |
|
|
This build is the best to follow for Baal in Genshin Impact. It’s a great balance between DMG and support. Because you have Energy Recharge in your artifacts, this helps with powering her Elemental Skill which is beneficial for all party members. You also get an increase in Elemental Burst DMG so you can deal a massive amount of damage when Baal is on the field.
In terms of weapons, you’d want to equip her with Engulfing Lightning as this is the best weapon for her. It increases both ATK and Energy Recharge which is great for Baal’s skillset. Alternatively, if you don’t have any of these, you can use The Catch and Prototype Starglittler as they both boost Energy Recharge.
Baal Support Build
Weapon | Artifacts |
|
|
While it isn’t recommended to run Baal as support on Genshin Impact, it’s not entirely impossible. Because of her Elemental Skill and Burst, she can boost and increase the DMG made by her party members. If you intend to run Baal on a Support build, make sure that you have a strong enough DPS because this build will greatly sacrifice Baal’s personal DMG even with weapons like the Staff of Homa and the Deathmatch which boosts Crit DMG and Crit Rate respectively. By equipping these weapons to Baal, you can still deal damage but it won’t be as big as the DMG that she can produce as a DPS.
DPS Build For Baal
Weapon | Artifacts |
|
|
When building Baal as your Main DPS, you want to equip artifacts that will boost Energy Recharge, Electro DMG, and Crit Rate/DMG. Ideally, you also want artifacts that will increase her Elemental Burst DMG as the bulk of her damage will come from her Elemental Burst. As far as weapons go, Engulfing Lightning is the best option; if you don’t have it as it is a rare weapon, you can opt to use Prototype Starglitter instead.
Best Team Composition For Baal
Since Baal will serve as your Main DPS, you need to formulate a team that can support her throughout the game. You will need to place an additional Electro character in your team so that you can build Elemental Resonance. This will help to power up Baal’s Elemental Skill and Burst faster.
Here are a couple of team compositions that you can use:
Recommended Team
- Main DPS: Baal (Raiden Shogun)
- Sub-DPS: Eula
- Support / Resonance: Kujou Sara
- Healer: Diona
For this composition, Baal will serve as your main DPS. However, you need to have a sub-DPS that can deal the same amount of damage as Baal in case you have to switch out. Eula is a great option to consider for this because of her damage ability. For your Support or Resonance, Baal works best with Kujou Sara because she can provide buffs. Lastly, your Healer can be Diona. This team is very big on Elemental Resonance which will allow you to spam your team’s Elemental Skill and Burst.
F2P Friendly Team
- Main DPS: Baal (Raiden Shogun)
- Support/Sub-DPS: Ayaka Kamisato
- Support / Resonance: Fischl
- Healer: Barbara
This build is a great substitute for the recommended build. Baal will remain as your main DPS. Ayaka Kamisato will serve as your sub-DPS because she can deal a significant amount of damage and inflict AoE damage as well. Fischl will serve as your Elemental Resonance with Baal and will continuously recharge energy. Lastly, your Healer will be Barbara as she is one of the most capable Healers in the game and most players will already have her on their roster.

Building the Formidable Raiden Shogun
Like Venti and Zhongli, Baal in Genshin Impact is a strong character by default. Because of her title as an Archon, she possesses a strong skill set that will greatly benefit your team. Moreover, she is capable of dealing great amounts of damage against enemies provided that she is built with the proper weapons and artifacts. Getting a grasp of her Skills and Abilities might take a while because it gets a little complicated but once you get the hang of it, it’ll be easier to use her with other characters. In all, Baal is a formidable character in Genshin Impact that is great to have if you want a strong Electro DPS.
